Justify Your Trip

to PlanetPTC Live

Only at PlanetPTC Live can professionals in mechanical and software engineering, manufacturing, service, and IT support gain new resources to do better work.

If you need help communicating these benefits to your manager (or your manager’s manager), we’ve created a number of items you can share.

Step 1 – Make the initial request

> Letter Templates
You may have mentioned your interest to attend PlanetPTC Live or forwarded an email to your manager. Now, take the next step and customize a letter that outlines the benefits for you, your team and your organization. PlanetPTC Live has developed a series of justification letters that lay out the conference benefits and ROI. Download the one that best suits your needs, edit it to emphasize how you can apply what you’ll learn to your job and submit it to your manager with a customized agenda PDF.

> Session Browser
PlanetPTC Live’s session browser tool allows you to show your manager exactly which sessions you can attend to build your skill set. Simply search by product, focus area or organization to create a customized agenda that you can save as a PDF and send to your manager in addition to your request.

Step 2 – Follow up on your request

> Address manager questions or concerns
Your manager is challenged with addressing the financial impact of your trip and lost productivity if he or she approves it. Give him or her the necessary resources to overcome concerns about the value of your attendance at PlanetPTC Live to your team and your organization. Set up a meeting to walk through your request. Here are some additional tools to help in the discussion.

Step 3 – Follow through after the event

> Put your new skills to work
The best way to demonstrate your newly acquired skills and renewed enthusiasm for creating and servicing your products is by applying lessons learned, best practices and new tools as soon as you get back to the office. Remember to download the presentations from the sessions you attended, review materials from sessions you weren’t able to fit in your schedule, and visit the website, discussion boards and other tools to learn about new resources you can use year-round.

> Share what you’ve learned with your team
Once you’ve internalized all the tips, tricks and words of wisdom from the event, take the time to share them with your teammates in whatever format works best for them. Be generous with your notes, contribute tips to the department newsletter or take a few minutes in the next team meeting to showcase your knowledge. You will not only reinforce your own education, you’ll gain the appreciation of coworkers who may be struggling with the same challenges.
